Description
The Controls Integration Engineer supports the on‑site deployment, integration, and commissioning of automated material handling equipment such as sorters, conveyor systems, and automated work cells. This role is hands‑on and execution‑focused, working alongside senior engineers to bring up Industrial PCs (IPCs), PLCs, industrial networks, and field devices during installation and commissioning phases.
This early‑career technical role is designed for engineers with strong foundational knowledge in controls, electrical systems, and industrial automation who are ready to develop field commissioning expertise. The engineer will receive mentorship and technical direction from Senior Controls Integration Engineers while progressively taking on greater ownership of commissioning tasks and subsystems.
Key Job Responsibilities Deployment & Commissioning Support- Support on‑site commissioning activities for sorters, conveyors, and automated work cells under the direction of senior engineers.
- Assist with provisioning, configuring, and validating Linux‑based IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and field devices per project standards.
- Perform I/O check‑outs, point‑to‑point wiring verification, and device‑level validation.
- Execute defined commissioning and test procedures, documenting results and flagging deviations.
- Support dry runs, functional testing, and integrated system testing during startup phases.
- Troubleshoot device‑level and subsystem‑level issues including sensor faults, communication errors, wiring discrepancies, and basic PLC logic issues.
- Escalate complex or multi‑domain issues to senior engineers with clear documentation of symptoms, steps taken, and observations.
- Assist with industrial network validation including IP addressing, device discovery, and basic switch configuration verification.
- Document issues, resolutions, and lessons learned to support team knowledge sharing.
- Work alongside technicians, electricians, and contractors during system installation and commissioning.
- Follow safety requirements, quality standards, and commissioning procedures at all times.
- Communicate status, blockers, and progress to the on‑site lead engineer clearly and proactively.
- Maintain organized records of commissioning progress, punch lists, and test results.
- Support equipment validation against design specifications and controls standards.
- Assist with integration testing between field devices, PLCs, and higher‑level control systems (WCS).
- Participate in turnover activities, helping ensure systems are documented and ready for operational ownership.
- Actively develop technical skills in PLC programming, industrial networking, and commissioning methodology.
- Seek feedback from senior engineers and apply lessons learned to improve personal execution quality.
- Contribute observations and ideas to improve commissioning processes, tools, and documentation.

Basic Qualifications- Experience automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build processes
Salary range varies by location: $ – $ USD annually (dependent on role, location, and experience).
