Location: Indianapolis

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the O&M building site by investigating and resolving complex problems related to cooling, heating, and pressure flow.
  • Analyze results from testing and treatment of all mechanical and generating equipment.
  • Repair, adjust, and calibrate electrical and electronic control systems, electrical power distribution equipment, computer systems, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, and steam systems.
  • Diagnose trouble calls and determine appropriate actions to be taken.
  • Update procedures to reflect changes in codes and regulations.
Education and Training
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 5–7 years of operational/maintenance experience in a high-pressure steam plant environment.
Licenses and Certifications
  • First-Class Refrigeration Engineer – Shelby County (required).
  • Class D Driver License – Tennessee/Motor Vehicle (required).
  • First-Class Steam Operating Engineer – Shelby County (required).
  • Class R Driver's License – Mississippi/Motor Vehicle (preferred).
  • Class D Driver's License – Arkansas/Motor Vehicle (preferred).
  • EPA Universal Certification – Environmental Protection Agency (preferred).
  • First Class Proficiency Contractor License – Shelby County (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Pass a DOT background check.
  • High degree of skill and proficiency in general physical plant engineering operations and maintenance in relevant technical fields.
  • Knowledge of system operations, including emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of electrical, electronics, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, computerized monitoring and control systems, and other specialized equipment common to plant operations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize and maintain control of workflow.
Supervision

No supervisory responsibilities; may occasionally assign duties or demonstrate job responsibilities to other associates.

Physical Demands
  • Exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Occasional travel outside hospital.
  • Noise exposure that may require shouting to be heard.
  • Hazards include proximity to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, scaffolding, high heat, and chemicals.
  • Physical activities: climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motion.
  • Medium work: exert up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or 25 lbs. frequently.
  • Close visual acuity required for detailed tasks such as preparing/analyzing data and figures and transcribing.
  • Activities occur both inside and outside the facility.
