Geotechnical Engineer

Dublin or Cork | Ireland

Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Ireland.

Engineer the ground beneath tomorrow's most critical infrastructure.

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our Ground Engineering team is the largest in Ireland, bringing together geotechnical engineers, hydro geologists, contaminated land specialists, and engineering geologists. We deliver innovative projects with creativity and passion, shaping the built environment across Ireland and the wider European business.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly specialised team and contribute to a dynamic portfolio of complex, multidisciplinary projects. You will play a key role in shaping some of the most significant infrastructure and development schemes in Ireland and across Europe.

While the role focuses on geotechnical engineering design and delivery, you will also gain valuable exposure to the full breadth of Ground Engineering disciplines. This position offers a stimulating and supportive environment to advance your technical, business, and people skills, working alongside industry experts and developing relationships with our firm's wider engineering community. It also offers the opportunity to place sustainability at the heart of engineering solutions.

As a Geotechnical Engineer at Arup, you will:

* Deliver geotechnical design and analysis for foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, and earthworks on major international commissions (e.g., hyperscale data centres in Europe, the Fehmarnsund Link) and nationally significant Irish infrastructure (e.g., Metrolink, DART+, N6 Galway Ring Road).

* Prepare high-quality design reports, technical specifications, desk studies, and site walkovers for educational, pharmaceutical, industrial, and commercial developments.

* Plan, supervise, and interpret geotechnical ground investigations, providing technical support during the construction phase, including periodic site visits.

* Incorporate the latest digital tools, automation, and numerical analysis into our projects to enhance project delivery.

* Develop your project management and commercial awareness skills, while supporting and mentoring junior colleagues as you strengthen your own leadership capabilities.

Does this role inspire you?

We're looking for a motivated and ambitious engineer looking to build a strong foundation in geotechnical design. We also value:

* An honours Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent). A post-graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Mechanics is an advantage.

* Over 3 years of post-graduate experience in geotechnical design and/or construction.

* Strong technical understanding of the design of deep excavations, deep and shallow foundations, earthworks, slope stability, and soft ground solutions.

* Good planning, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to maintain personal effectiveness across several projects and communicate confidently in both technical and non-technical settings.

* Experience in planning, managing, supervising, and interpreting ground investigation contracts, and/or experience in numerical analysis and GIS.

* A commitment to continuous professional development, ideally working towards Chartered status, with the flexibility to travel and work on-site (a full driver's licence is a strong advantage).
