Responsibilities- Assist commissioning of automated material handling equipment and warehouse control systems.
- Supervise and mentor automation technicians and subordinates to ensure growth and development.
- Provide guidance/direction to train Automation Controls Technicians and maintenance.
- Review system layouts, schematics, field wiring, control devices and other automation components.
- Assist Chief Engineer in developing a staff of mechanics and coordinating vendors to provide adequate Preventative Maintenance (PM) and emergency repair to support operations.
- Expert on site regarding PLC logic, SCADA systems, and HMI.
- Coordinate with automation supervisor to setup, program, modify, and maintain a variety of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA systems and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
- Trouble‑shoot automated and material handling equipment (i.e., motors, scanners, PLC components, power supplies, VFDs, photoeyes, encoders, etc.) and other electrical control equipment.
- Use Savanna WCS to read I/O status and PLC fault codes.
- Evaluate situations to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
- Troubleshoot, replace, and align sensors including photoeyes and proximity switches.
- Identify spare parts needed for field requirements.
- Utilize the Computerize Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) to manage and improve Preventive Maintenance (PM’s) and spare parts usage.
- Assist with the development of maintenance SOP’s, maintenance procedures, and safety procedures.
- Ensure safety in accessing/operating heavy automated machinery as well as rigging, climbing, and working with high voltage and controls circuits.

- Technical Associate's Degree or higher
- Must pass Emergency Response Physical (Lung Capacity and Auditory Testing are conducted annually)
- 3+ years of project management experience, preferably within automated material handling and logistics applications
- Experience with PLC, VFD, HMI, AGV, VGV, AC Motor Controls, Robotics knowledge, including programming and configuration
- Three or more years engineering experience supporting, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC/PC industrial control systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley)
- Ability to schedule own tasks and handle all facets of assigned projects independently and with minimal supervision
- Experience with Allen Bradley / Siemens PLC HW/SW platforms
- Safety orientation with high voltage power supplies
- Hands‑on experience with industrial networks
- Experience and skill in analyzing control systems and troubleshooting issues
- Root cause analysis / problem‑solving skills
Physical Requirements
- Bend and lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Lift up to 70 lbs. with assistance on an occasional basis
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls
- Be able to speak and hear for safety and productivity
- Use scanners, tablets, radio, phones, and other warehouse machinery
- Ability to lift overhead
- Ability to work overtime due to demand
- Drive a registered motor vehicle to satisfy daily requirements
- Have acceptable and/or correctable vision
- Work in an atmosphere range of +50 to
-30 degrees F with a moderate noise level - Personal interaction and communication required with other people is extremely high
- Good arithmetic and reading skills
- Understand and follow verbal instruction, written instruction and company policies
- A self‑starter that can work independently and coordinate with others
- Work in a fast‑pace environment with the ability to manage stress and productivity guidelines
