Rolls-Royce is looking for a Senior Control System Certification Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship Rolls-Royce programs and play a vital role in solving some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in the industry while being part of a global, multi-disciplinary team.
Job TitleSenior Control System Engineer – Certification Liaison
Responsibilities- Own the process of obtaining certification authority approval of the control system, software, and airborne electronic hardware aspects of engine certification, using guidance from DO-178, DO-254, ARP
4754 and supporting supplements. - Communicate the certification approach and the planning and compliance substantiation for the system, software, and airborne electronic hardware.
- Coordinate the phases of the certification liaison process and audits where life cycle data is reviewed with the certification authority, including development of planning baselines and incremental certifications.
- Travel up to 10% to support certification events.
- Collaborate with certification authority and Rolls-Royce stakeholders to agree scope and deliverables for each stage of involvement by the certification authority.
- Establish standards and procedures for developing work products of safety-critical applications per ARP
4754A, DO-178C and DO-254. - Establish communication between the control system development team, the Rolls-Royce compliance authority, and the certification authority on certification approach, planning, and compliance substantiation.
- Ensure certification plans are followed and certification evidence is available at all development phases.
- Review deliverables and presentations for compliance to applicable plans and standards.
- Liaise with Rolls-Royce compliance and certification authorities to address findings, actions, and comments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering with 2+ years of ARP 4754 certification experience, OR
- Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, OR
- PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Experience with military qualification and/or FAA certification of airborne systems
- U.S. citizenship
- 5+ years of ARP 4754, DO-178, or DO-254 certification experience with application of agile development methods
- Gas turbine engine, propulsion, or electrical control system experience
- Demonstrated experience as a safety-critical certification liaison
- Experience developing model-based systems with MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tools
- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler (Magic Draw) or similar SysML modelling software
- Experience with DO-331 Model Based Development and CAST-32A Multi-Core Processor guidance
- Understanding of IEEE 1633 Software Reliability
- Understanding of DO-326 & DO-356 or RMF security aspects of certification
