Manager of Mechanical Engineering – Power Systems & Industrial Equipment
A growing engineering and manufacturing organization specializing in critical power and industrial infrastructure solutions is seeking a Manager of Mechanical Engineering to lead a team responsible for the design and development of custom mechanical systems used in mission-critical applications. This role provides technical leadership, strategic direction, and hands-on oversight of engineering design activities supporting complex electrical and mechanical power systems.
The ideal candidate will drive engineering excellence, improve product design efficiency, reduce cycle times and costs, and ensure all deliverables meet customer requirements and industry standards across high-demand industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership & Design OversightLead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, designers, and drafters.
Provide technical direction for mechanical design activities, including material selection and system design concepts.
Review and approve mechanical designs to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
Establish and improve engineering processes, tools, and design methodologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
Drive product standardization, simplification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Project & Operational ExecutionOversee mechanical design execution across multiple concurrent projects.
Coordinate engineering resources to meet project schedules, technical requirements, and production timelines.
Collaborate with estimating and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate project execution and cost alignment.
Support manufacturing operations by resolving technical issues and improving design manufacturability.
Monitor project progress and ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables.
Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with electrical engineering and design teams to ensure fully integrated system designs.
Coordinate with manufacturing leadership to improve production efficiency and product quality.
Serve as the final technical authority for mechanical engineering decisions.
Support research and development efforts focused on product innovation and cost reduction.
Provide technical expertise during customer engagement, design reviews, and project development phases.
Ensure mechanical designs align with customer requirements and industry regulations.
Communicate engineering solutions clearly to internal teams, leadership, and external stakeholders.
QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience in industrial, marine, energy, or heavy manufacturing environments.
5+ years of experience in electro-mechanical systems, including low- and medium-voltage power distribution, motor control systems, and related equipment.
2+ years of experience leading or managing engineering teams.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and production systems.
Experience working with 3D design tools such as Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of industry standards and codes related to electrical and mechanical systems.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or MBA.
Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Prior experience in mid- to senior-level engineering management roles.
Office-based role with frequent visits to manufacturing and production facilities.
Hands-on involvement in engineering, production support, and operational coordination.
Ability to navigate industrial environments safely and effectively.
Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work schedules may occasionally require extended hours to meet project and client deadlines.
