The Mechanical Control Units Design Engineer will develop control system hardware requirements, then guide Rolls-Royce-approved suppliers through the detailed design process to ensure delivered hardware meets all technical and program requirements. The role focuses on aftermarket support of our control system hardware, which may include field investigations, processing design changes, and evaluating non-conforming hardware. The Design Engineer will work within a small team to deliver the required hardware and associated documentation and will interface with both external suppliers and internal engine program teams.
Responsibilities- Own the responsibility for a package of mechanical control units on an existing platform, looking after performance and reliability
- Drive coordination of effort with various suppliers to quickly resolve technical, manufacturing, and supply chain issues
- Investigate in-service issues, drive root-cause analysis and determine corrective action
- Review and disposition non-conforming material, identify cost or reliability improvements, and process design changes to improve component reliability
- Advocate for the component suppliers through internal gated design reviews, overseeing any new qualification efforts driven by design changes
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering with 1+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or control systems, OR Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering, OR PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering
- U.S. citizenship is required for consideration
- 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience
- Experience with control systems hardware design
- Experience with change management and risk management processes
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving techniques
- Knowledge of RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 environmental testing standards
