Position TitleProject Manager I
SummaryProject Manager I position has single point accountability or can be under general direction of a Project Director or Senior PM. PM‑I position is responsible for management, or assisting management, of all phases of project planning and execution to ensure project success factors are met. These include but are not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration.
PMI‑position is expected to provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.
The position is typically assigned a portfolio of "White" or "Green" ranked projects per the Project Management Center of Excellence Risk‑Informed Project Ranking Process. Higher ranked projects with greater risk may also be assigned when accompanied with an Enhanced Support and Oversight Plan (ESOP). The position is accountable for a portfolio of assigned projects with Low to Moderate levels of risk that impact various levels of the Company, Senior Management or External Agencies.
PM‑I's may be assigned projects with specific risk‑informed requirements based on specific experience and skill sets.
PM‑I's serve as unifying agents providing leadership, decision making, management, guidance, coordination, and control of overall projects in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements of the Company.
- Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
- Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
- Conducts engineering and related studies.
- Strives to continually improve job‑related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
- Maintains accurate records and files.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
- Associate's degree AND 2 years minimum required related work experience.
- In lieu of degree and experience listed above, High‑school/GED AND 5 years of minimum required related work experience.
- Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
- Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Experience with design, specification, installation, and project management of instrument and control systems including field instrumentation, analyzer systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCS), distributed control systems (DCS), etc.
- Experience with specification, installation and project management of electrical power systems within an industrial facility such as transformers, motors, relays, variable frequency drives, medium and low voltage applications, etc.
- Experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others.
- Received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
- Understanding of basic principles of project management.
- Experience in the utility or process industry.
25‑50% travel.
