Technical Sales Engineer / Specialist
We’re hiring for a Technical Sales Engineer/Specialist who will support our Engineering and Sales Support Teams by providing pre‑and post‑sales technical assistance, working closely with sales, customer support, and project management teams to support customers.
Key Responsibilities- Pre‑Sales:
- Provide pre‑sales technical support during feasibility, design, and tender stages to outside sales, distributors, and consulting engineers.
- Assist the Engineering Team with technical and product expertise and conduct research and data analysis to meet customer consultancy needs.
- Collaborate with internal colleagues and subject‑matter experts to review tender documents and provide support in quotation creation for engineered projects.
- Contribute as a technical consultant in preparing and reviewing project bid packages and advise the sales team on technical requests.
- Support Application Engineers and Sales in reviewing technical documentation to ensure proposals are technically viable and feasible.
- Post‑Sales:
- Work with Engineering to prepare, review, and follow up on technical submittals, ensuring drawings are compliant and approved by customers.
- Address customer questions regarding submitted drawings and coordinate with third‑party vendors to meet requirements.
- Support project managers with technical solutions and application engineers with customer training.
- Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.
- Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, production specifications, and testing protocols using CAD, CAM, or CAE systems.
- Ability to review and interpret tender documents, technical specifications, data sheets, and proposal documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with strong relationship‑building abilities across departments and external partners.
- Professional presence with the ability to present information effectively in meetings and customer interactions.
- Solid project management skills, including planning, coordination, and follow‑through.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- 0–2+ years of relevant experience (EIT and recent graduates welcome).
- Ability to use consistent business processes and react to changing business needs quickly.
- Willingness to provide superior customer service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, strong problem‑solving and negotiation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with customers, coworkers, and management.
- Strong teamwork, organizational and multi‑tasking abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Mechanical engineering or automation degree.
- Knowledge of mechanical and pumping designs, hydraulics, pneumatics, water flow, and diesel, gas, and electric motors.
- Occasional light lifting (10‑25 lbs); job site environment; sit or stand, reach, bend, and move regularly.
- Regular listening, talking to, and seeing employees and customers daily.
- Occasional exposure to gas fields, petrochemical refineries, mills, mines, construction sites, industrial/power plants, wastewater treatment plants, shop noise, and fumes.
- Standard office environment free of disagreeable elements.
- Travel may be required as needed.
