Job Title:
AE Defense Turbo‑Machinery Design Engineer (Full‑time, Indianapolis, IN)
- Create innovative design solutions to achieve technical and business requirements.
- Develop component requirements documents for owned hardware and design concepts, and perform trade studies to optimize hardware.
- Carry out analyses using formula‑based calculations and/or automated workflows for dimensionaling of parts and components (e.g., stability, stiffness, profiles, balance point, weights).
- Use analytical rules, tools, and methods to underwrite the design solution against requirements.
- Support the creation of detailed drawings and model‑based definition; provide project and manufacturing support to procure conforming hardware.
- Establish limits for engine and rig testing, support testing activities, and assess test results and tested hardware.
- Develop solutions for dispositioning non‑conforming hardware in production and aftermarket.
- Create and review technical presentations and reports to deliver solutions.
- Generate functional and physical interface definitions and analysis requirements for components.
- Provide input for component‑level risks, complete DFMEA, and conduct risk assessments for owned components.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of design experience, or Master’s/PhD in the same field.
- Experience using computer‑aided design tools such as NX.
- Familiarity with gas turbine components and subsystems, including blades, vanes, wheels, and casings, and knowledge of materials, dynamics, and aerothermal methods.
- Ability to apply logical, analytical, and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
- Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and the creation of limit stacks.
- Knowledge of generic design processes and component‑specific design guidance.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and product integrity/liability and certification frameworks.
- Strong communication and presentation skills at all organizational levels.
- Experience with engine assembly, testing, and gas turbine compressor & turbine wheel design and analysis methods.
- Experience with finite element analysis tools such as ANSYS.
- Programming skills such as Visual Basic, Matlab, Python, PERL, C++ and/or use of computational tools like Matlab.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, willingness to accept responsibility, and drive to finish assigned tasks on schedule.
