Apply sound knowledge of engineering principles and practices to designing and planning installations, replacements, and maintenance of Sycamore Gas pipeline system. Planning complex projects such as distribution supply line extensions and relocations; gas measurement and regulation facilities; (maintaining) corrosion control facilities; and specifying maintenance schedules for pipeline components regulated by Federal and State authorities are typical projects for Engineers.

Engineers complete the design for projects, processes customer service requests, generate cost estimates, determine easement and permit requirements, support project scheduling, and prepare completed project documentation and provide regular updates to maintain data in work, safety, asset, hydraulic modeling and geographical information systems.

The Engineer communicates with internal and external customers, visits project work sites and effectively balances their time in the office and in the field.

Focus:
Engineering, Safety and Regulatory Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Conduct surveys of pipeline construction routes and determines optimum locations for pipelines and related components; specifies gas facility types, sizes, and materials to meet D.O.T. design requirements on all varieties of Sycamore distribution pipelines; and dictates gas handling requirements, including materials and procedures for system maintenance and modifications.
  • Figures pipeline and component flow capacity at various pressures, as well as pressure drop at specified flow rates through various pipelines and related components. Review and approve design work by others for service lines for capacity and sizing.
  • Calculates all aspects of pipeline and components strength testing requirements including design limits, pressure, test medium, and timing.
  • Prepares construction drawings, including high pressure distribution lines and pressure regulating stations; prepares and maintains maps; and reviews municipal as well as private construction drawings to determine interference with proposed or existing Sycamore facilities and negotiates changes to minimize interference.
  • Subject Matter Expert for instrumentation, measurement and control.
