Pre-Engineer – Fall Protection
Position Summary
The Pre-Engineer – Fall Protection is responsible for supporting the design and development of engineered fall protection systems. This role bridges sales, engineering, and project teams by gathering field data, developing preliminary layouts, and preparing system concepts that meet safety standards and customer requirements. The Pre-Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that proposed solutions are accurate, compliant, and cost‑effective before full engineering and fabrication begins.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct site assessments (in-person or virtual) to collect measurements, photos, and structural data
- Develop preliminary system designs for fall protection solutions (e.g., guardrails, lifelines, anchors, platforms)
- Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to support system layout and feasibility
- Collaborate with sales and project managers to define scope, timelines, and customer needs
- Prepare concept drawings, submittals, and proposal documentation
- Ensure designs comply with OSHA, ANSI, and applicable safety codes and standards
- Identify risks, constraints, and potential challenges early in the pre‑engineering phase
- Provide material takeoffs and assist with cost estimation
- Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and internal teams
- Support handoff to engineering and project execution teams
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in fall protection, construction, structural systems, or a related technical field
- Equivalent combination of education and field experience considered
- Basic understanding of structural systems and load considerations
- Familiarity with OSHA fall protection requirements and ANSI standards
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar) preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documents
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Customer-focused mindset
- Combination of office and field environments
- Occasional travel to job sites
- May require working at heights during site evaluations (with proper training and PPE)
