Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and regulatory support to fossil-fueled generating facilities in Duke Energy's Midwest service area (Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky). The primary environmental compliance subject areas are Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), ambient monitoring systems, and stack emissions testing.
General Responsibilities- Safely support environmental regulatory compliance for electric generating facilities in the Duke Energy Midwest service area, focusing on air emissions monitoring and reporting at Gibson Generating Station.
- Provide technical expertise regarding USEPA Emission Test Methods, legacy Acid Rain CEMS and New Source Performance Standard CEMS (SO2, NOx, CO2, CO, O2, Flow), Continuous Opacity Monitors (COMS), Mercury Continuous Emissions Monitors & Sorbent Traps, and Particulate Matter Continuous Emissions Monitors.
- Ensure CEMS O&M processes and data quality adhere to applicable regulatory requirements and Duke CEMS Program standards.
- Provide day-to-day CEMS functional oversight and troubleshooting, ensuring the accurate transfer of signals to/from both the CEMS Data Acquisition Handling System (DAHS) and the facility's control room.
- Verify CEMS DAHS programming satisfies both regulatory standards and facility controls.
- Work Management:
Collaborate with operations and project management to acquire resources for maintenance, improvements, and required testing. - Stack Tests:
Coordinate tests with station operations, ensuring facility equipment protection and contractor safety while verifying compliant procedures are followed. - Risk Management:
Identify and rank compliance risks and develop mitigation or corrective action plans, as needed. - Data & Reporting:
Reviews emissions data, prepares internal reports, and verifies compliance report content prior to submittal.
- Serves as subject matter expert for technical programs and compliance issues supporting company’s environmental goals, strategies, programs, and processes. Creates procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental laws and regulations. Tracks industry standards and identifies needed changes to facility’s compliance programs. Works with federal, state and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws.
- Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports.
- Participates in preparation and negotiation of facility permits with federal, state and local authorities. Assists with implementation of facility permit requirements. Works with others to update various facility regulatory plans and documents while minimizing impacts to operational activities.
- Strives to continually develop and improve job-related, technical knowledge and skills to ensure that department expectations are met and responsibilities are accomplished efficiently.

- EHS Consultant
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Health and Safety or other related degree
- Minimum 3 years related work experience
- In lieu of Bachelors degree and 3 years' experience, a High School/GED and 7 years directly related work experience
- Associate EHS Consultant
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Health and Safety or other related degree
- In lieu of Bachelors degree, a High School/GED and 4 years directly related work experience
- Demonstrated experience installing, operating, and maintaining industrial instrumentation.
- Experience installing, operating, and maintaining CEMS equipment such as analyzers, solenoids, compressed air dryers & scrubbers, heater controllers, etc.
- Experience using and/or programming PLCs, Data Loggers, or Data Acquisition System software.
Work environment includes both office and power plant locations with exposure to operating machinery, heat, cold, noise, dust, and humidity. Includes occasional work in hard to reach, elevated locations and restricted spaces in all types of weather…
