Component Design Engineer

Full time – Indianapolis, IN / Hybrid (3 days onsite per week on average)

We have an exciting opportunity for an entry‑level Component Design Engineer to join our growing team. You will work on flagship Rolls‑Royce programs, designing and testing mechanical systems that meet the most demanding defense requirements.

What you will be doing
  • Lead design and analysis activities for mechanical hardware from requirements capture to program completion.
  • Translate system requirements into subsystem and component specifications and issue clear requirement documents.
  • Develop hardware design concepts, perform trade studies, create basic CAD models and conduct structural analysis.
  • Document functional and physical interfaces with other component engineers.
  • Generate and manage hardware bill‑of‑materials, collaborating across teams for product integration.
  • Support engineering drawings or model‑based definitions for manufacture and procurement.
  • Define limits for engine and rig testing, assess test results, and provide test‑support for hardware.
  • Create technical presentations and reports to communicate solutions.
Who we’re looking for

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a high‑level security clearance.
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Preferred Requirements
  • 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as NX.
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T and limit stack creation.
  • Understanding of generic design processes and methods.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS).
  • Programming skills (Visual Basic, MATLAB, Python, PERL, C++).
  • Knowledge of engine assembly and testing.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and prioritization skills.
