Mechanical Integrity Engineer

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance of fixed equipment within the Ultem Manufacturing units. This role develops, implements, and maintains the site’s Mechanical Integrity (MI) program in alignment with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and company standards.

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and EHSS to establish inspection and testing strategies, evaluate equipment condition, and mitigate risks associated with pressure vessels, piping systems, tanks, and critical process equipment. Through data analysis, failure investigation, and continuous improvement initiatives, this role helps ensure safe, reliable operations while extending the asset life and minimizing unplanned downtime.

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Ultem Mechanical Integrity program in alignment with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and company standards.
• Manage programs and projects to improve asset reliability of fixed asset systems of piping, tanks, vessels, silos, bins, heat exchangers, pressure relief devices and structures.
• Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineers, and Contractors to provide leadership, oversight, and technical support for development of inspection and remediation plans for piping, tanks, pressure relief device and vessels systems while minimizing operational disruption.
• Lead or support root cause investigations for equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Support inspection, non‑destructive examination, preventative and predictive maintenance processes while striving for 100% reliability/uptime of equipment and operating systems. Methods include RCA methodology, fitness‑for‑service assessment, and risk‑based inspection (RBI) methodology.
• Review and approve all fabrication repair, alteration, replacement decisions and plans for piping, tanks, pressure vessels and pressure relief devices.
• Manage and oversee QA/QC of all fabrication repair, alteration and fabrication of piping, tanks, pressure vessels & pressure relief devices.
• Identify opportunities to create and deliver projects/programs to continuously improve the site’s Mechanical Integrity program.
• Provide engineering support for maintenance activities, turnarounds, and capital projects involving mechanical equipment.
• Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, repairs, and compliance records within asset management systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify reliability improvements, reduce downtime, and extend asset life.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as API, ASME, NBIC and OSHA PSM requirements.

• BS in Engineering required (Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical).
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably petrochemical industry.
• Outstanding mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Effective communication, collaboration, and influence across diverse cross‑functional teams.
• Certifications in API 510, API 570, API 653, and NACE CIP preferred.
• Working knowledge of API RP 571, API 579, 580, and 581 preferred.
• Knowledge of the Indiana Boiler and Pressure Vessel Rules, NBIC NB23 codes, ASME Codes and Standards preferred (structural steel, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, piping).
• Knowledge of welding processes and static equipment repair techniques preferred.
• Knowledge of visual and non‑destructive examination methods preferred.
• Ability to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the Indiana Boiler and Pressure Vessel Board and jurisdictional boiler and pressure vessel inspectors.
• Competent with computer business software and clear written and verbal communication.
• Self‑starter who facilitates discussions and delivers results within required time frames.
• Demonstrated ability to create and implement programs to solve problems and produce results.
• Project management experience and experience with PS AIM and INSPECT software a plus.

• Compliance with site regulations for PPE while in process areas
• Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work for SABIC in the United States on a full‑time basis.

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work Monday‑Friday during assigned hours of operation and other hours as required to meet business needs.
