Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Plant Engineer of Turbine Systems is responsible for the technical / engineering oversight of the Turbine systems at the coal fired power generation station. Primary responsibility will be the Westinghouse Steam Turbines. The incumbent will also serve as an ‘equipment’ or ‘system’ owner for these and other areas of the station.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Candidate must have knowledge of Steam Turbines and related equipment such as generators, condensers, hydraulic systems, performance data monitoring system and other turbine related equipment. The individual will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the generating station steam turbines and supporting systems.
- Candidate will also be responsible for several other areas of the plant and must have experience with rotating equipment, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermal performance, high energy piping systems and, in general, have a very strong understanding of Coal Fired Power Plants.
- Gathers data and reports information on equipment, unit and station performance. Performs testing and analyzes results to monitor equipment and station performance. Recommends changes that will lead to improvements in station key performance indicators. Functions as subject matter expert and technical team member.
- Performs failure analysis for equipment within responsibility area. Consults with engineers, OEM’s, onsite and off-site equipment users to determine equipment characteristics. Provides predictive maintenance services within responsibility area.
- Candidate will be responsible for planning and tracking of capital and O&M expenditures and position requirements for both short term and long-term planning.
- Develops plans for maintenance, repair, replacement and/or improvement of assigned equipment, systems and processes. Documents issues and actions taken; maintains records, drawings and manuals associated with assigned equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- 4 year Bachelor’s degree, in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- A technical degree with extensive coal power generating experience, demonstrated technical capability and 10+ years in coal power generation will be considered in lieu of a BS degree in engineering.
- Professional certification (PE,PMP) preferred.
- 5 years’ engineering experience in an industrial setting
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels and work as part of a team
- Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines
- Demonstrated level of professionalism and positive attitude
- Ability to exercise flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment

$90,000 - $165,000 a year
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
