Project Engineer (Warehouse Automation) – Junior Level Indianapolis, IN | Pharmaceutical Manufacturing client | Warehouse Engineering & Automation Overview
Our client is seeking a Project Engineer to support a large-scale warehouse modernization initiative involving automation upgrades, AGV expansion, RFID implementation, ASRS enhancements, and material flow improvements. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience with warehouse automation systems while working alongside senior engineering and operational leaders.
The engineer will support projects that directly impact manufacturing operations by ensuring raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods move efficiently throughout the warehouse ecosystem.
What You'll Be Working OnWarehouse Automation Projects- Support automation and capital projects throughout the warehouse.
- Participate in AGV, ASRS, RFID, and material handling initiatives.
- Assist with execution, implementation, testing, and startup activities.
- Work directly with vendors, contractors, and internal operational teams.
- Support a company-wide effort to eliminate wood pallets from warehouse and manufacturing operations.
- Assist with implementation of new plastic pallet systems and pallet exchange equipment.
- Help evaluate material flow, process performance, and operational impacts.
- Support troubleshooting efforts during implementation and startup.
- Troubleshoot automation, controls, and electrical issues.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Assist with equipment testing, qualification, and validation activities.
- Work with warehouse operations to identify and resolve equipment reliability concerns.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Automation, or related Engineering discipline.
- 1-5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, automation, warehouse operations, logistics, or industrial systems.
- Experience supporting engineering projects or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to learn quickly in a highly automated environment.
- Exposure to Rockwell PLCs.
- Automation or controls experience.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience.
- SCADA or Ignition experience.
- AGV or ASRS exposure.
- Warehouse logistics, distribution center, or manufacturing experience.
- Validation or CQV support experience.
We are looking for someone who is motivated, curious, and eager to learn. The ideal candidate doesn't need to be the subject matter expert on day one but should be comfortable asking questions, taking ownership of problems, and developing technical expertise quickly. Successful candidates often come from warehouse automation, logistics engineering, manufacturing engineering, controls engineering, or material handling environments.
