Description

Kanak Naturals is a growing manufacturer of innovative, sustainable single-use dinnerware and packaging solutions. We are committed to developing environmentally responsible products while continuously improving our manufacturing processes and product performance.

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. This role will be responsible for product design, tooling development, equipment improvements, and engineering documentation using Solid Works CAD software.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Designer will join our engineering team on a contract basis with the opportunity to transition into a full-time permanent position based on performance, business needs, and mutual fit.

This position is responsible for creating detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation to support new product development, tooling, production equipment enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong CAD design skills with practical manufacturing knowledge and enjoys collaborating across engineering, operations, and production teams to bring concepts to reality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using Solid Works
    .
  • Design components, fixtures, tooling, and production equipment improvements.
  • Support new product development activities from concept through production launch.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and revision-controlled drawings.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure designs meet functional, manufacturing, quality, and cost requirements.
  • Generate prototypes and assist with testing, validation, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and implementation of engineering projects.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to product or equipment performance.
Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Solid Works CAD
    , including parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Experience creating manufacturing drawings utilizing GD&T and industry drafting standards.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components, materials, fabrication methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of tooling design, fixtures, automation, and machine design.
