Overview

Own the deals. Build the pipeline. Shape the future. What if you weren’t just supporting M&A… but actually running it
? At Functional Devices, we're looking for a hands-on M&A leader who wants to own the full lifecycle of acquisitions—from sourcing to close to integration—and directly influence the company's growth trajectory. This isn't a strategy-only role. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves, build-it-yourself opportunity where you'll be the person driving deals forward—not watching from the sidelines. You'll work side-by-side with the CEO, Board, and private equity partners
, helping define what the next chapter of our company looks like. The role reports directly to the President & CEO and serves as a key driver of the company's acquisition strategy and growth initiatives.

Why Functional Devices?

At Functional Devices, Inc., we have been providing top-quality products to a diverse range of industries since 1969. Our solutions support building automation, HVAC, lighting, electrical, panel shop, fire and safety, wireless, and power monitoring applications. Located in Indiana, we design and manufacture products that are rigorously tested for quality before leaving our production floor. Our success is built on a commitment to excellence, innovation, collaboration, and integrity—values that guide how we serve customers, support one another, and grow our business.

As we continue to expand through strategic acquisitions and organic growth initiatives, we are investing in leadership talent that will help shape the future of our organization.

What You'll Own
  • Build and manage a pipeline of acquisition opportunities from the ground up.
  • Lead financial modeling, valuation, and investment analysis for acquisition targets.
  • Direct due diligence efforts and lead diligence discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support and drive negotiations, transaction execution, and deal closing activities.
  • Lead post-acquisition integration planning and value creation initiatives.
  • Partner directly with executive leadership, the Board, and investment partners on growth strategy and execution.
  • Operate as a true "player-coach" and builder—creating models, leading meetings, solving problems, and delivering results.
Why This Role Stands Out
  • Direct access to the CEO, Board, and private equity sponsors
  • Ownership of the company's acquisition program
  • End-to-end deal responsibility from sourcing through integration
  • Significant visibility and influence across the organization
  • Opportunity to help shape the long-term growth strategy of the business
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in M&A, Corporate Development, Investment Banking, Private Equity, Transaction Advisory, or related field
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical capabilities
  • Experience participating in or leading acquisition transactions and due diligence processes
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or other relevant advanced credentials
  • Experience leading buy-side acquisitions
  • Experience with post-merger integration and value creation initiatives
  • Exposure to manufacturing, industrial technology, automation, or related sectors
  • Track record of independently driving transactions from origination through closing
Travel Expectations
  • Travel approximately 25-40% for target identification, diligence activities, acquisition integration efforts, investor interactions, and industry networking opportunities.
Bottom Line

If you're looking for a role where you can build something meaningful, lead high-impact transactions, and directly influence company growth
, this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for. You're not joining an M&A team. You're helping build one.
