Job Opening - Controller Position Summary

As a member of the Business Office Team, this position reports to the Vice President for Finance. The Controller plays a key role in supporting the accounting and finance operations of the school. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial well-being of an esteemed educational institution while gaining valuable experience in nonprofit finance.

This full-time position reports to the Vice President for Finance (VPF).

• Lead in the preparation and distribution of monthly and annual financial reports.
• Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and guidelines.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting and business operations, ensuring timely month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Assist in the coordination of annual audits and work closely with auditors to provide necessary documentation and resolve audit inquiries.
• Collaborate with the VP for Finance in the preparation of the annual budget. Monitor budget variances and provide analysis to support decision-making.
• Handle fixed asset accounting and assist in budgeting and analysis.
• Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
• Partner with Advancement team in the preparation of fundraising results
• Offer guidance and advisory support to A/P and A/R personnel.
• Participate in Finance Committee meetings.
• Identify, design, and implement process enhancements in collaboration with departments outside the Business Office (Advancement, Faculty, and others).
• Develop deep proficiency in all aspects of Financial Edge accounting software and serve as the organization’s subject‑matter expert.
• Interpret and document moderately complex accounting workflows, including preparing clear written T‑accounts to support reconciliation and decision‑making.
• Assist the VPF in various Finance activities, analyses, and special projects.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• An understanding of not-for-profit fund accounting.
• 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse users of financial information.

• Proficiency with Blackbaud Financial Edge and familiarity with Paylocity.
• Previous experience in an educational environment.
• Prior experience working in a diverse community.
