Location: Indianapolis
Patrol Officer – 37th Recruit Class – City County Building, IN
Position Responsibilities- Conduct beat patrols on foot and in vehicle, maintaining high visibility to deter crime.
- Perform routine checks of businesses, residential areas, and any assigned locations.
- Monitor radio communications, respond to emergency and non‑emergency runs, and assist other officers as needed.
- Identify, report, and respond to suspicious activity, lost persons, injuries, abandoned vehicles, dog bites, and other public safety incidents.
- Assist citizens through community relations: greet patrons, provide safety information, visit local businesses, assist motorists, engage with juveniles, and give presentations to neighborhood groups.
- Prepare incident reports, capias sheets, affidavits, accident reports, arrest slips, and inter‑departmental records in compliance with Department Directives.
- Respond to crime scenes, conduct investigations, interview victims and witnesses, secure evidence, and coordinate with K‑9, detectives, ambulance, and other agencies.
- Handle domestic disturbances and violent situations: provide first aid, de‑escalate, arrest, conduct searches, and arrange transport to detention and referral services.
- Enforce traffic laws by inspecting vehicles, issuing citations, and performing breathalyzer tests when indicated.
- Investigate traffic accidents, collect evidence, prepare diagrams, and facilitate transport of vehicles and injured parties.
- Attend daily roll‑calls, review operational information, and coordinate with detectives, adjoining district officers, and other department staff.
- Serve search & arrest warrants, traffic control at special events, and maintain uniform, equipment, and vehicle readiness.
- High school diploma or GED (home‑schooled students must present a GED).
- U.S. citizenship required.
- 21 years old but not yet 40 years old at the time of appointment.
- No un‑expunged felonies or domestic‑violence misdemeanors.
- Valid driver’s license from state of residence; reliable transportation into jurisdiction; working telephone service.
- No dishonorable military discharge.
- Successful completion of mandatory drug screening.
- All starting rates are bi‑weekly.
- Life Insurance Employee Only: basic coverage at no cost; optional coverage based on age tier (see table in original posting).
