About Miami Correctional Facility

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Miami Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum-security correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill.
Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations.
Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week.
Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Role Overview
:
The Correctional Caseworker coordinates all case management matters and facilitates incarcerated individual access to available programs and services. Incumbent is responsible for providing counseling and resource information to incarcerated individuals at an adult correctional facility. The purpose of work is to ensure that the Department's policies and established guidelines are met in providing the incarcerated individual proper counseling and supporting facility staff if needed.
He/She is responsible for providing generalized instruction to subordinate staff as well as detailed instruction on specific cases. Incumbent provides recommendations concerning the incarcerated individual’s location, confinement, employment, parole opportunities, external contacts, and most other aspects of institutional life.
Salary Statement
:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Provide guidance to offenders on issues such as job assignments, housing changes, facility transfers, and other facility procedures.
- Act as a liaison between prospective employers, courts, community, and governmental agencies for the purpose of job development and release adjustment.
- Assess each assigned offender's risk and needs utilizing the Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).
- Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.
- Prepare documentation related to an offender’s temporary absences and progress reports, including case notes and program referrals over the course of an offender’s incarceration.
- Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.
- Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.
- Adhere to the re-entry policies to ensure all quality assurance job tasks are completed in accordance with policy.
