Aboutthe Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI)
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is the State planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic safety, and victim services. The institute develops long-range strategies for the effective administration of Indiana's criminal and juvenile justice systems and administers state and federal funds to carry out these strategies. Further, ICJI is responsible for coordinating and collaborating with local, state, and federal entities to identify, assess, plan, resource, and evaluate new and emerging issues facing the criminal justice and public safety spectrum.
Role OverviewServes as a regulatory compliance monitor concerning recipients of state and federal grant funds that are administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Recipients of grant funds from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute are subject to monitoring requirements to ensure compliance with the federal and/or state laws, rules, and regulations that govern each grant. Compliance monitoring is conducted via desk review and on-site monitoring.
Incumbent is responsible for applying accounting, auditing, and/or investigative principles, theories, standards and techniques in order to plan and perform fiscal and programmatic compliance monitoring to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the LifeThe essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Primarily reports to the Indiana Government Center South on a daily basis.
- Conduct audit procedures and tests of governmental units’ financial statements on annual schedule.
- Prepare reports presenting audit findings for submission to supervisor and agency.
- Communicate with staff of governmental unit under audit concerning issues such as procedures, technical interpretations, and results of audit.
- Track approvals for requisitions within assigned funds and grant funds.
- Track approved request modifications to purchase orders to relieve encumbrances/pre-encumbrances in funds.
- Create annual spending plan, biennial budget request and biweekly year-end forecasting.
- Provide a fiscal/programmatic review of all contracts initiated, amended, or extended within funds.
- Provide assistance to vendor inquiries with assistance from other fiscal staff.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Essential functions of this position require travel on most workdays to inspect, audit, examine, survey, or investigate clients, customers, or other regulated entities and write reports at those sites.
- Employee reports to the agency’s office for meetings or events.
- Number and timing of work hours may vary daily or weekly to accommodate operational needs and staffing concerns at the client’s or customer’s worksite, minimize expenditures for repeated visits to complete the work, and allocate resources to complete assigned work effectively.
This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
