Sr. Manager, Local Government Affairs – AES Indiana
Responsible for advancing AES Indiana’s interests within the Central Indiana service territory by influencing local ordinances, zoning, policies, and public engagement to support utility goals.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor, analyze, and influence local ordinances, zoning laws, and right‑of‑way regulations affecting grid modernization and asset development.
- Represent AES at city council meetings, county commissioner hearings, regional planning commissions, and other public forums; prepare and deliver presentations and reports.
- Build and maintain relationships with mayors, council members, township trustees, county executives, planning and zoning officials, economic development representatives, and community leaders.
- Act as grassroots liaison to align community leaders with AES strategic initiatives.
- Provide incident‑command support during outages and storm restoration events, coordinating with emergency management agencies and elected officials.
- Serve on committees and coalitions (e.g., Indiana Energy Association, chamber of commerce) to represent AES positions.
- Recommend allocation of local corporate contributions and political contributions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Business, Communications, or an energy‑focused field.
- MPA, MBA, or JD preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, public affairs, state or city public service, or utility operations.
- Demonstrated success in advocating organizational interests within government settings.
- Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of Indiana municipal and county government structures and political climates.
- Knowledge of investor‑owned utility business models, electric distribution, transmission, and generation infrastructure.
- Proficiency with research and communications software; experience applying artificial intelligence tools.
- Exceptional interpersonal, consensus‑building, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Travel:
Must travel throughout Central Indiana and surrounding counties as needed. - Schedule:
Must be available for evening meetings, on‑call emergency response, and occasional political events. - Licensing:
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required. - Must be willing to register as a state and local lobbyist.
