Job Summary:
• Provides evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
Responsibilities:
• Assesses patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on
diagnosis.
• Implements and monitors patient care plan and equipment. Monitors, records and communicates patient
condition. Performs advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluates respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcome.
• Educates the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community
support groups and other available programs.
• Responds to emergency resuscitation team code.
Complexity of Work:
• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal
supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
Required Credential(s):
• BLS Provider. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Respiratory Care Practitioner credentialed from the Indiana Respiratory Care Committee.
• Respiratory Therapist specializing in Registered credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Preferred Credential(s):
• Advanced Life Support. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Education:
• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
