Job Overview & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant assists the Occupational Therapist in the practice of occupational therapy while practicing under temporary, provisional, graduate, training authorization, Authorization to Test (ATT), or other practice authorization as permitted by applicable state law. Provides occupational therapy services to address developmental deficits, activities of daily living, work conditioning, range of motion, coordination, balance, endurance, cognition, and exercise programs designed to restore function and increase strength.

Essential Functions
- Patient Care: directs and aides patients in active and passive exercise programs, leisure activities, ADL training, coordination, balance, endurance, cognition, conditioning, and perceptual-motor activities as directed by a licensed Occupational Therapist and within the scope permitted by temporary/provisional authorization and applicable state law. Assist in fabricating splints as directed by the Occupational Therapist. Communicate any change in patient condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Documentation: Complete documentation of patient charts, including progress notes, patient charges, patient/family education records, and team conference reports. Assist with reassessments and discharge summaries under the direction of the supervising Occupational Therapist and in accordance with organizational standards.
- Supervision: Practice under supervision requirements established by applicable state law and organizational policy. Direct activities of technicians, students, and volunteers as assigned and permitted by authorization status and applicable regulations.
- Quality: assists with the implementation of new program as needed. Involved with quality assessment and improvement.
- Department Compliance: complies with department policy and procedures, safety/inspection control plans/OSHA guidelines, employee handbook, and standards of regulatory bodies (Joint Commission, Medicare, CARF, )
- Demonstrates customer service principles and behaviors
- Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety.
- Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient.
- Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education.
- Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient.
- Regular, Punctual and dependable.

Qualifications & Pay RangeRequired Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Occupational Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post-surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and customer service communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with disabled individuals.
- Clinical proficiency in treatments consistent with clinic programs.
- Ability to follow supervision requirements, organizational policies, and regulatory standards applicable to temporary or provisional practice.
Required Credentials
- Associate Degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Active temporary, provisional, graduate, training authorization, Authorization to Test (ATT), or other practice authorization permitted by the applicable state licensing board, if required by state law.
- Must meet and maintain all state‑specific requirements related to temporary practice, supervision, scope of duties, and licensure eligibility.
