Job DescriptionUniversity Health Services (UHS) is a dynamic, fast-paced college health practice committed to providing excellent health care to the students of the University of Notre Dame. The Patient Care Assistants (PCA) are valued members of the UHS team and work collaboratively with providers, nurses, support staff, and administrators. PCAs work under the direct supervision of providers and nurses, performing patient care services with respect and dignity.
DirectPatient Care
- Obtain and document vitals signs, patient chief complaint, current medications, and allergies.
- Assist in examination and treatment of patients and perform diagnostic procedures, including: 12 lead EKGs, Snellen vision screening, and CLIA-waived laboratory testing such as rapid strep test, rapid influenza test and others.
- Therapeutic treatment of patients, including: crutch fitting and education, heat/cold therapy, assist with ultrasound injections, and application of durable medical equipment, such as extremity splint fitting.
- Assist providers in obtaining patient consent for procedures.
- Prepare exam, treatment, and procedure rooms for patient care by cleaning/sanitizing the room and setting up appropriately for the next patient visit.
- Prepare for specialty exams and procedures by obtaining provider specific instruments.
- Maintain autoclave for sterilization of equipment including surgical instruments and other medical supplies.
- Inspect, clean, and monitor equipment; maintain inventory of supplies and linens, restock rooms and closets as needed.
- Label specimens and transport to the lab.
- Additional responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain medical records and other healthcare documents according to patient-privacy requirements to assure patient confidentiality.
- Document all care they provide in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement activities with other members of the clinical staff.
- High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years experience
- Experience in physician office or hospital preferred
- Maintain basic CPR life-saving certification; will be provided as needed.
- Hourly Rate: $17.00 - $20.00; commensurate with experience.
