Overview
The Speech Pathologist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and counseling patients with speech, language, swallowing, or hearing disorders in accordance with professional and Methodist Healthcare standards of treatment. Responsibilities- Perform initial patient assessment on assigned patients.
- Implement treatment activities.
- Provide ongoing patient assessment through observation and record keeping, and report findings in a timely fashion.
- Identify patient‑specific Speech Rehabilitation learning needs and provide appropriate education.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for self‑development and enhancement of professional competency.
- Perform other job functions as assigned or requested.
- Required:
Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
Required:
No prior work experience.
- Required:
Speech‑Language Pathologist, Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Communications Disorders and Sciences. - Preferred:
Speech‑Language Pathologist, Mississippi – Mississippi State Board of Health.
- Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
- Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates, management, and physicians; and to serve as an example for patients with clear speech and acceptable pronunciation, grammar, and word usage.
- Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of work flow.
There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this job.
Physical DemandsThe physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are: medium work – exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform activities such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
