What you will do
- Fill medication orders under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Assist with inventory and stocking of medications in the pharmacy and patient care areas according to established pharmaceutical protocol and procedures.
- Provide routine information and respond to requests within scope of responsibility.
- Maintain records and files in accordance with pharmacy practice standards.
- Follow established procedures for medication safety and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and policies.
- Perform other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education / Formal Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (required).
Work Experience Requirements
- No prior work experience required.
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Certified Pharmacy Technician – Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (required).
- Pharmacy Technician – Tennessee, Tennessee Board of Pharmacy (required).
- Certified Pharmacy Technician – ExCPT, National Health career Association (preferred).
- Pharmacy Technician – Mississippi, Mississippi Board of Pharmacy (preferred).
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
- Mathematical skills to perform routine pharmaceutical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percents.
- Practice within the established role for pharmacy technicians in organized health care settings.
- Effectively use medical terminology, drug nomenclature, symbols, and abbreviations associated with pharmacy practice.
- Communicate effectively with patients, associates, and other health professionals.
- Proficient in the use of pharmacy-based computer systems and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Explain and complete technical functions of the operation of the drug distribution system for organized healthcare settings.
- Apply basic pharmacology and pharmacologic principles.
- Understand aseptic technique and prepare sterile products.
Supervision Provided by this Position
There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this job.
Physical Demands
- Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motion.
- Medium work – exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
- Requires good balance and coordination, close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision.
- Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact; exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
