Patient Support Technician

The Patient Support Technician assistsin totalpatientcare and guides therapeutic approaches.

The Technician is an active team member andparticipatesinappropriate treatment modalities.

This positionprovidesforthe physical and psychological environmentofthe Psychiatric Hospital according to the goals and philosophy of its program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role, all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. These essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Observe patient activity and monitoring safety
• Maintaining a safe and clean care environment for patients
• Assisting with patient care needs for hygiene, personal care, support, and social and leisure activities
• Carry out assignments or orders delegated by nursing staff
• Assist patients with completing consents for care
• Complete duties for admissions and discharges of patients
• Facilitate and provide additional staff support in patient group activities
• Document patient progress on treatment goals in the patient’s record in a timely manner
• Prepare and serve meals and snacks in the kitchen
• Participate in de-escalation skills and seclusion and restraint interventions when needed to maintain safety for all
• Complete all trainings and attend all staff meetings as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

• Education:
  
  High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in mental health related field preferred.
• Experience:
  
  Prefer two (2) years in a mental health setting.
• Certificate or Professional License:
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - certification must be obtained afterhireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must bemaintainedand kept current through employment.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid - certification must be obtained afterhireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must bemaintainedand kept current through employment.
  • SERV Safe Food Handler Certification- required prior to working in the kitchen orassistingwith serving meals. Certification must be kept current.
• Valid driver’s license and active autoinsurance coverage.
• Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
• Must be a minimum
  21years of age.
• Must be a minimum of 25 years of age to operatea Bowen vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

• Occupational Exposure Risk Classification:
  The normal work routine involves minimal exposure to blood, bodyfluidsor tissues.
• The normal work routine has a minimal ergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.
• The position may require a minimal amount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.
• The position requires the ability to engage with patients who may become violent and to participate in physical patient holds using approved techniques when necessary.
