Role Description

The Disability Support Worker will provide individualised support to people with disabilities, assisting with daily living activities, skill development, and participation in community or online activities. This contract role is remote, and the worker will engage with participants in their natural settings, negotiating scheduled supports through digital platforms, phone, and other agreed communication channels to deliver consistent services. Day-to-day tasks may include personal care and commmunity access support, coordinating appointments, offering emotional and social support, helping people work toward personal goals, and maintaining accurate documentation of supports provided.

The role also involves liaising with families and other professionals, following safeguarding and safety procedures, and adapting support strategies as needs change.

Qualifications
  • Experience as a Disability Support Worker or in similar support roles, with an understanding of person-centered and strengths-based approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities, including active listening, clear written communication, and respectful, inclusive engagement.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices, with the ability to identify and respond to risk, maintain professional boundaries, and follow relevant policies.
  • Capability to provide remote technical support related to online sessions and digital tools used for communication and documentation.
  • Relevant qualification or training in disability support, community services, social work, psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment, with reliable internet access and appropriate workspace and communication practices.
  • Understanding of inclusive practice, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Current working with children/vulnerable people checks and any required clearances or registrations, or willingness to obtain them.
