About

the Position:

The Medical Physicist Assistant plays an essential clinical support role in the cancer center and the broader hospital. Because the same team handles all the physics work for the hospitals, this position offers experience in both radiation oncology and the full range of medical radiation safety support. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and communication skills.

Clinic Information:
  • This position is based in Indianapolis.
  • This role is supported by 2 other physicists, 3 dosimetrists and 4 Radiation Oncologists.
  • The facility is equipped with 2 linear accelerators, both equipped with Brainlab Exactrac Dynamic, Varian Truebeam, Varian Edge, Brainlab Elements Planning System for Stereotactic planning, Varian Eclipse and Aria, Radformation tools like auto contour, clearcheck, clear calc, and EZ Fluencw.
  • Active HDR Brachytherapy program using Elekta Flexitron HDR and Oncentra planning System
  • Excellent facility with amazing staff and Radiation Oncologists!
What You’ll Do
  • Perform weekly and monthly radiation measurements, as well as yearly calibration on all treatment units under the supervision and partnership with Medical Physicists
  • Monitor equipment in the Radiation Oncology Department to ensure that it is functioning correctly and safely under the supervision and partnership with Medical Physicists
  • Maintain regulatory agency records and reports.
  • Analyze alternative treatment plans and supervise dosimetry treatment planning functions.
  • Implement assessment/treatment and care based on the developmental stages of the patient.
  • Perform additional duties, as needed.
  • Perform routine daily, monthly, and annual quality assurance (QA) tests on linear accelerators, imaging systems, and other radiation therapy equipment to ensure optimal performance and patient safety
  • Conduct patient-specific QA procedures
  • Assist with the commissioning and acceptance testing of new treatment technologies under the supervision and partnership with Medical Physicists
  • Support ongoing calibration and maintenance processes to maintain system accuracy and reliability
Treatment Planning Assistance
  • Collaborate with medical physicists and dosimetrists in the data collection and validation
  • Support clinical staff in maintaining and updating beam models, commissioning data, and patient datasets
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and optimization of treatment planning workflows under supervision
System Support & Data Management
  • Assist in the maintenance, testing, and documentation of oncology software systems
  • Develop or use analysis tools to monitor system performance and ensure clinical accuracy
  • Help with the integration and verification of new software and technology updates
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Health Physics, Medical Physics, Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field (Master’s degree from a CAMPEP approved program preferred)
  • Foundational knowledge of radiation physics, radiation therapy, and radiation safety best practices
  • Experience or familiarity with QA tools, survey meters, dosimeters, and treatment planning software
  • Proficiency with technical software and data analysis tools
