Position Summary

The Autism & Developmental Disability Surveillance Abstractor supports the Autism and Developmental Disability Monitoring (ADDM) Network within the Maternal and Child Health Division. The position reviews medical and educational records of children with autism or suspected autism, collects relevant information, and enters data into REDCap and other electronic systems to support public health surveillance and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and abstract data from medical and educational records.
  • Enter, maintain, and validate data in REDCap and electronic record systems
    .
  • Support autism and developmental disability surveillance activities.
  • Communicate with hospitals, physicians, and medical-record departments to obtain required records.
  • Maintain hospital contacts, project documentation, and tracking records.
  • Participate in ADDM meetings, training, and program initiatives.
  • Assist with public health education materials and webpage content.
  • Collaborate with public health teams on projects related to autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Respond to or appropriately route public and healthcare-provider inquiries.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling sensitive information.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Education, Special Education, Early Childhood, Health Sciences
    , or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with databases, REDCap, or electronic medical records preferred.
  • Clinical data abstraction or medical record review experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of autism or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
