Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Medical Transport Team Leader provides leadership and support to the medical transport team under the direction of the supervisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Performs dispatch for the Medical Transport Department
  • Leads and supports the Medical Transport staff
  • Assist with coordinating staff schedules
  • Assists supervisor and manager with new hire orientation.
  • Assists in conducting interviews and scheduling peer interviews for potential new hires
  • Assists and coordinates with manager on hiring, probationary periods and performance reviews
  • Oversees the cleaning and maintenance of equipment (i.e. wheelchairs and stretchers)
  • Submits monthly reports as directed by the manager
  • Trouble shoots the Epic system
  • Performs all essential job functions of a transport aide and/or EMT when necessary
  • Assists with the activities and educational/clinical experiences of assigned observers and students
  • Participates actively in continuing education and medical audit programs
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills
  • Report to the scene of automobile accidents when our department’s vehicles are involved
  • Oversees wheelchair inventory and roundups
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years as a dispatcher for the department.
  • Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance desired but not required.
  • Current Indiana Driver’s license with motor vehicle record that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy standards
  • Current Indiana motor vehicle insurance
  • AHA CPR Certification
  • EVOC certification with 6 months of hire
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must have specific knowledge of:
  • practical skills, theory and medical terminology related to basic and some advanced emergency medical care
  • principles of human growth and development
  • age-appropriate care (i.e. neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric)
  • Must be able to:
  • work effectively under emergency conditions and stress
  • drive an emergency vehicle under emergency conditions
  • coordinate emergency care with paramedics
  • proficiently use and maintain basic and some advanced life support equipment and supplies
  • lift up to 35 lbs individually and 175 lbs with a partner
  • carry a stair chair 30 yards, up two flights of stairs, then down two flights of stairs with a patient attached
  • carry tech box, oxygen equip. bag and ECG monitor up two flights of stairs
  • kneel, stoop and crouch for extended periods of time, including kneeling long enough to perform two hundred chest compressions in 2 minutes
  • interact in a calm, effective and courteous manner with patients, public, and hospital staff
  • follow detailed or general instructions, verbal and written legibly, accurately, and confidentially use and record data
