Job Title: Service Reliability Engineer – Cheminformatics (only W2)

Location: Remote from US – Eastern Time 8-5

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Theoris is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with deep experience supporting scientific or cheminformatics environments. This fully remote, W2‑only role offers a competitive salary and full benefits.

The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on expertise with chemistry or cheminformatics platforms, particularly Live Design. Experience with Gene Data Screener, Spotfire, or Inventa is also valuable. You’ll partner closely with scientific users and engineering teams to ensure high availability, smooth deployments, strong automation, and reliable workflows across complex research applications.

Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor the health and performance of the MD3 infrastructure (data observations, HPC, Live Design tasks).
  • Utilize monitoring tools (Service Now, Splunk, Grafana) to detect and respond to incidents in real-time.
  • Perform regular job queue checks and maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor dashboard and community chats/channels for any issues or alerts.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and potentially resolve technical issues related to the MD3 infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Dev Ops engineers and other technical teams to address and fix incidents.
  • Document and communicate the root cause of incidents and the steps taken to resolve them.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts to streamline monitoring and troubleshooting processes.
  • Identify areas for improvement in the infrastructure and propose solutions to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews to identify and address any gaps in the monitoring and support processes.
  • Work closely with the Dev Ops team to ensure alignment with business goals and research needs.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on incidents and resolutions.
  • Participate in regular standups and scrums to discuss ongoing issues and progress.
  • Build and share bi-weekly reports on the status and performance of the MD3 infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge articles for the help desk (Service Now) and FAQ for users.
  • Ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible for the support team and end-users.
  • Ensure that all incidents and problems are resolved within the defined SLAs.
  • Fine-tuning applications and infrastructure to ensure systems meet performance benchmarks.
  • Create runbooks for critical alerts.
Requirements
  • Proficiency with tools like Service Now, Splunk, and Grafana for incident detection and system health monitoring.
  • Chemistry or Cheminformatics platforms.
  • Live Design, Gene Data Screener, Spotfire, or Inventa.
  • Understanding of MD3 infrastructure, including components like data observations, HPC, and Live Design tasks.
  • Experience with automation scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) to streamline monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform and optimize job queue checks and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with dashboard systems and community channels for real-time issue tracking.
  • Strong skills in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues.
  • Experience working with Dev Ops teams, including knowledge of CI/CD practices and infrastructure alignment.
  • Ability to create and maintain runbooks, knowledge articles, and FAQs using platforms like Service Now.
  • Performance tuning and benchmarking of applications and infrastructure.
  • Identifying and proposing improvements to enhance system reliability.
  • Participation in standups, scrums, and post-incident reviews.
  • Ability to explain technical issues and resolutions to non-technical audiences.
