Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Communications Compliance/ WCAG Specialist to support a focused accessibility initiative aimed at ensuring public-facing health information is accessible to all residents. This role will coordinate efforts to bring state health forms, digital content, and web pages into compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.

The specialist will work closely with the Office of Public Affairs, program teams, and web content administrators to evaluate, remediate, and improve accessibility across a variety of communication channels and digital assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and assess health forms, documents, PDFs, websites, and digital content for compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  • Revise, rewrite, and remediate content to ensure accessibility, including proper document structure, semantic tagging, alternative text, color contrast, and plain language requirements.
  • Collaborate with web teams and agency stakeholders to ensure HTML content, PDFs, and interactive elements meet accessibility standards.
  • Utilize accessibility evaluation and project tracking tools to monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Provide guidance, training, and best-practice recommendations to content creators and publishing teams.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to validate accessibility corrections and compliance improvements.
  • Prepare reports and documentation summarizing remediation efforts, compliance status, outstanding issues, and recommendations.
  • Stay current on accessibility standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in technical writing, digital communications, web content management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards and digital accessibility principles.
  • Experience evaluating and remediating digital content for accessibility compliance.
  • Hands‑on experience with accessibility tools such as WAVE, Axe, Adobe Acrobat Accessibility Checker, or similar solutions.
  • Strong writing, editing, and plain-language content development skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and related productivity tools.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within government, public health, healthcare, or other regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and web publishing workflows.
  • Experience monitoring project progress and reporting on compliance initiatives.
  • Accessibility certifications such as CPACC (Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) or WAS (Web Accessibility Specialist).
  • Knowledge of screen reader technologies, semantic HTML, and document tagging best practices.
