Position DescriptionThe Technical Writer (ATO) develops, maintains, and updates clear, accurate, and compliant technical documentation to support the successful Authority to Operate (ATO) process and ongoing operations of the FSA IAM systems. This role ensures all required artifacts are well-written, organized, and ready for reviews, audits, and submissions.
ResponsibilitiesThe Technical Writer creates and revises content updates for IAM websites and applications, including wording changes, error messages, banners, and visual content while adhering to the FSA Style Guide and Section 508 accessibility standards. They prepare access and use reports, help desk metrics, environment support documentation, application support materials, and project-related artifacts. Additional responsibilities include developing and maintaining system security plans, configuration management records, risk and issue logs, schedules, test documentation, training materials, and other deliverables needed for ATO packages, FISMA compliance, and technical project management.
Required Qualifications- Excellent technical writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise language
- Experience creating documentation for federal ATO, FISMA, or RMF processes
- Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, SharePoint, and documentation repositories
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple documents and versions
- Familiarity with Agile project documentation and change management
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, security staff, and stakeholders
- Understanding of IAM concepts and federal IT compliance standards is a plus
- Self‑motivated with the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
