Location: Indianapolis

Summary

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, assisting with negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, packaging, and other supplies for pharmaceutical production. Ensures timely availability, regulatory compliance, and cost management to support manufacturing, facility maintenance, and capital projects.

Job Responsibilities
  • Source and assist in evaluating/selection of suppliers for Direct Materials (raw materials, APIs, excipients, packaging) and/or Indirect Materials (lab supplies, facility maintenance parts, capital project items).
  • Negotiate prices/terms to reduce costs; support supplier contracts and long-term relationships.
  • Place/manage purchase orders; triage discrepancies to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Own and maintain SAP master data.
  • Monitor vendor performance; issue reports and take corrective action per SOPs and cGMP.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Production, and Regulatory to ensure purchased materials meet standards/regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, cGMP).
  • Monitor usage rates; analyze/adjust safety stock levels to optimize material flow.
  • Maintain purchase/pricing/inventory records in ERP/procurement systems; report current/future supply status.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous improvement.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or related field; or 5+ years in supply chain/procurement (biotech/pharma or comparable).
  • Demonstrated procurement/materials management and supplier relationship experience.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Strong analytical, strategic, problem-solving; excellent communication/stakeholder management.
  • Deep regulatory understanding (cGMP, GDP, FDA).
  • S&OP, demand planning, and supply chain optimization experience.
  • Matrix work; influence senior leaders.
  • Supply chain tools/methodologies; vendor management, contract negotiation, cost control.
  • Uses AI tools to enhance productivity/quality.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Regular interaction with office, warehouse, and manufacturing environments; PPE in certain areas.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, laboratory, and logistics environments.
