Job Description POSITION SUMMARY

Janitors are responsible for the routine cleaning schedule for offices, break rooms, restrooms and manufacturing buildings and any grounds area as assigned. They can perform routine cleaning with very little supervision. They must be knowledgeable of and follow all safe work practices and procedures when handling cleaning equipment, products/chemicals, and disposal.

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Each Janitor will develop, with the Maintenance Manager, a routine cleaning schedule for the offices and manufacturing building and any grounds area as assigned including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning and servicing restrooms, including timely disposal of rubbish and waste materials in proper containers by hand or with powered equipment. They will know each department location and the leader in the department to be able to interface with any routine scheduled cleaning.

Janitors must be capable of performing job duties with very little supervision. They are responsible for the inventory of various supplies and cleaning products needed to perform scheduled cleaning and must notify when supplies need re‑ordering and use or dispose cleaning products according to manufacturer's instructions.

They are required to be versed in plant safety procedures such as the Hazard Communication Program (Material Safety Data Sheets), proper lifting and bending procedures, accident prevention, personal protective equipment, blood borne pathogens, basic electrical safety, plant evacuation routes, safe use of cleaning equipment, and the safety concerns of co‑workers & visitors for wet floors and electrical cords. They may periodically perform work that does not pertain to the job function such as, but not limited to, work on the production line, breaking machines.

Secondary responsibilities may include monthly safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and bug lights. They must be able to obtain a valid forklift license, scissor lift and ability to operate overhead crane.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of standard janitorial methods, practices, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning compounds and solutions.
  • Knowledge of the proper use and disposal of chemicals, which may include fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Good hand and eye coordination are essential.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds safely.
  • Ability to intermittently stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, twist, crouch, reach, and lower for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills are required to transfer and to interpret the explanation of problems and to receive and understand work assignments.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • High School Graduate or GED with one-year preferred work experience.
  • Ability to operate forklift safely and professionally.
