About the Role
The Safety Manager plays a critical operational role in maintaining workplace safety, risk prevention, and incident response across the Zoo. Reporting to the Director of Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management, this position coordinates safety programs, supports emergency preparedness efforts, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. The role requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response coverage, to meet the demands of the Zoo's 24/7 operations.
Key Responsibilities Safety Program Operations & Implementation- Support the Zoo's mission by promoting a safe, healthy, and engaging environment for staff, guests, and animals.
- Assist with the daily coordination and implementation of safety programs, hazard assessments, and operational walkthroughs.
- Conduct routine inspections and follow up on corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Maintain accurate safety records, training logs, inspection reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Support compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Assist in incident investigations, documentation, and implementation of preventive measures.
- Coordinate and instruct safety-related training programs (e.g., First Aid/CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication).
- Support emergency preparedness planning, drills, and Incident Command operations.
- Collaborate with departments on safety initiatives, fire safety, environmental safety, and risk mitigation projects.
- Assist in leading Safety Committee meetings in rotation with the Director of Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management.
- Manage PPE inventory, distribution, and usage across the Zoo.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, coaching, and collaboration.
- Build strong working relationships with internal departments, leadership, external agencies, and vendors.
- Maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and responsiveness in routine and high-pressure situations.
- Recognize and elevate operational risks and safety concerns appropriately.
High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Emergency Management, or related field preferred.
- 3‑5 years in safety, emergency management, risk management, or related operational roles.
- Experience in incident response, inspections, investigations, and safety training preferred.
- Leadership, coordination, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety standards, risk prevention, and emergency protocols.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high‑pressure situations.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on‑call emergencies.
As a key operational leader, you will help ensure the Zoo remains a safe and welcoming environment for all. This is a full‑time, onsite position with flexible scheduling required to meet operational and emergency needs.
