Director of Preconstruction

At Flaherty & Collins Construction, we believe successful projects start long before ground is broken. Our preconstruction team lays the strategic foundation that drives value, efficiency, and excellence across every development. We're seeking a Director of Preconstruction
to lead this critical function — someone who combines deep cost expertise with strategic leadership and a passion for building smarter from day one.

Why This Role Is Perfect for You:

You're both analytical and visionary. You love diving into cost models, schedules, and design documents — but you also enjoy leading teams, improving systems, and influencing company-wide strategy. You understand that preconstruction is more than estimating — it's about maximizing value, managing risk, and positioning projects for long-term success.

If you're ready to lead a department that directly impacts profitability, quality, and execution across the portfolio, this is your opportunity.

What You'll Do:

Lead and oversee all preconstruction and estimating activities for new and rehabilitation projects.

Prepare and review conceptual budgets, feasibility models, and detailed cost estimates.

Manage and continuously improve the preconstruction process across the organization.

Develop and maintain cost and schedule databases to support accurate forecasting and decision-making.

Conduct constructability reviews and provide value engineering recommendations.

Oversee bid scope preparation, subcontractor outreach, bid management, and evaluations.

Facilitate buyout support and assist construction teams with change order analysis and cost impacts.

Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.

Lead strategic sourcing initiatives and maximize bid coverage.

Evaluate and implement new technologies, software, and best practices.

Mentor, develop, and grow the Preconstruction team.

Partner with Construction and Development leadership to align budgets, schedules, and procurement strategies.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Design, or a related field.

5+ years of construction industry experience with 5+ years in a leadership capacity.

Strong expertise in cost modeling, scheduling, constructability, and procurement strategy.

Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.

High level of business acumen and strategic thinking.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, and construction management tools.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Benefits Package:

  • Wellness Benefits:
    Employee Assistance Program
  • Virtual Doctor Visits
  • Retirement Planning: 401k program with a company match
  • Employer-Paid Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
    - Personal Time, Birthday, Diversity Day, and 8.5 Holidays.
  • Rental Discounts
  • Industry Memberships
  • Company Events
  • Employer-Paid Training & Certifications
  • Employee Referral Program
