About the Role

Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is hiring an experienced Project Manager (Civil Engineer) for our Indianapolis, IN office. The Project Manager will lead the successful completion and delivery of assigned projects, serve as the primary client contact, safeguard client interests, and ensure project goals are met within the executed contract.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend client and public meetings (days, evenings, or nights).
  • Coordinate with all disciplines (internal and external) involved in project delivery, ensuring the team understands scope, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist in reviewing contracts to safeguard the firm’s exposure to scope, fee, and schedule risks; review contract language that may allocate unreasonable or uninsurable liability.
  • Negotiate contracts with clients, including scope, fees, and schedule.
  • Secure executed contracts, Notice to Proceed, and Sub‑Consultant Agreements before project services commence.
  • Monitor client project delivery goals, proactively identifying issues that could compromise or influence achievement of those goals.
  • Track project delivery relative to the contracted scope and fees, promptly addressing client‑requested out‑of‑scope services and securing additional compensation or limiting scope as appropriate.
  • Prepare and oversee the creation of complex reports, studies, permits, design computations, plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure technical accuracy and competency of all projects.
  • Use computer‑assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Schedule project progress meetings with all disciplines and personnel to monitor progress as defined by management.
  • Sign and seal assigned project documents.
  • Visit the construction site to monitor progress and perform duties as required by the contract documents.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies for the company; supervise bookkeeping and related financial activities.
Qualifications
  • Over 10 years of experience in Civil Engineering, with at least 5 years as a Project Manager.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Proven leadership skills with engineering staff and organizations.
  • Strong team player in a multi‑disciplinary environment, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands

Employee must frequently sit, stand, walk, use hands and arms, lift up to 10 lbs routinely and up to 25 lbs occasionally, and sometimes lift or move up to 50 lbs. The role requires daily reading, writing, and telephone use, and may involve exposure to wet, humid, dusty, or hazardous construction conditions.

Working Conditions

Fieldwork is supported by a company vehicle; employee must have a valid driver’s record and be physically capable of work on construction sites. Work may involve exposure to fumes, chemicals, electric shock risk, vibration, dust, asphalt, and concrete. Occasional extra hours, including weekends, and working in various weather conditions may be required.

Work Environment

The office environment has moderate noise; construction sites are typically loud and may require hearing protection. The role combines indoor office tasks (repairs, reviews, reports) with outdoor site visits and conditions that can vary with weather and location.
