Role Summary & Core Purpose
The Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive, providing strategic, financial, and operational leadership to advance a mission-driven animal welfare organization. This role is accountable for organizational growth, program quality, financial sustainability, fundraising, and community engagement, while fostering a culture of compassion, accountability, and excellence in animal care aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Top Responsibilities- Lead organizational strategy and partner with the Board to achieve mission and growth goals.
- Oversee financial management, budgeting, and fundraising to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Supervise and develop staff and engage a large volunteer base.
- Ensure effective shelter operations, high-quality animal care, and program outcomes.
- Represent the organization publicly and build strong community partnerships.
- Maintain compliance, oversee facilities, and drive continuous operational improvement.
- Support Board governance and provide regular organizational updates.
- Strategic leadership + direct execution
- Financial acumen & fundraising oversight
- Effective communication and community presence
- Emotional intelligence and team leadership
- Problem-solving, adaptability, and accountability mindset
- Ability to manage both people and processes under pressure.
- Required:
- Associate degree (business, nonprofit, animal welfare, etc.)
- 3–5 years fundraising leadership with 2–4 years program management and 1+ year staff supervision
- Preferred:
- Executive-level experience
- Animal welfare background
- Volunteer management experience.
- Board collaboration experience.
- On-site at shelter facility with flexible daytime hours Monday–Friday and occasional evenings/weekends
- Coverage for emergency animal welfare situations
- Monthly board meetings and committee meetings when applicable
- Reliable transportation, phone access, and ability to lift 15 lbs.
- Strong organizational financial health and growing fundraising results.
- High-functioning staff + engaged volunteer base
- Increased adoptions and animal welfare outcomes
- Positive community reputation and partnerships
- Clear systems, accountability, and data-driven decisions
Salary - $75,000–$80,000
