Role Overview:

The Assistant Director of Accountability serves as the technical lead for the Office of School Accountability, playing a central role in managing high‑stakes accountability functions across statewide data processes, cohort operations, accountability calculations, graduation rate reporting, and other core components of Indiana’s accountability system.

This position ensures accurate, timely, and compliant results across multiple accountability cycles by overseeing essential data workflows, supporting audit activities, coordinating publication materials, and managing accountability‑related contracts. The Assistant Director applies strong analytical judgment to guide decision‑making, particularly in situations where policy or regulation may be evolving or unclear.

With support from the Director of Accountability, the Assistant Director contributes leadership within the team, helping Specialists navigate complex tasks and promoting alignment and consistency in accountability work across the agency.

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Review and evaluate organizational effectiveness, goal determination, and strategic planning, etc., makes recommendations for improvement.
• Assist the Director with developing and coordinating plans and policies, resources, and mission as well as goals, vision and expectations of agency or program.
• Provide guidance to agencies and the public regarding applicable laws and rules.
• Supervise subordinate personnel including hiring, determining workload, and authorizing assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary action.
• Assist with monitoring agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures, and budget projections.
• Communicate with news and other media and respond to media questions or requests in an appropriate public relations manner.
• Coordinate with other government officials on planning issues.
