Since its founding, HAPS has brought together educators from colleges, universities, community colleges, high schools, health professions programs, and related educational institutions who share a commitment to high-quality teaching, educational scholarship, professional development, and student success.

As a member-driven organization, HAPS relies on the dedication of its volunteer leaders, committees, and professional partners to achieve its mission. The Executive Director plays a central leadership role in bringing these efforts together—working collaboratively with the Board of Directors, Steering Committee, an association management company, other volunteer leaders, and external partners.
Position SummaryThe Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and is responsible for advancing the Society's mission, strategic priorities, organizational sustainability, and member value. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, volunteer leaders, and association management company (AMC), the Executive Director provides executive leadership to strengthen HAPS as the premier professional association for anatomy and physiology educators.
The Executive Director leads through collaboration, influence, and strategic coordination. While the association management company provides day-to-day association management and administrative support, the Executive Director provides overall organizational leadership, advances strategic priorities, strengthens membership and financial sustainability, develops partnerships and revenue opportunities, and serves as a connector among the Board, Steering Committee, volunteer leaders, and the AMC. The Executive Director serves as the Board's chief executive advisor and an ambassador for the Society.
Education and ExperienceRequired:
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree required
- Experience building strategic partnerships and external relationships
- At least one year of relevant professional experience in a nonprofit association, higher education institution, or comparable organization
- Experience developing revenue opportunities through partnerships, sponsor ships, fundraising, grants, business development, educational products, or other sources
Preferred:
- Three to five years (or more) of relevant professional experience in a nonprofit, association, higher education institution, or comparable organization
- Experience in higher education, working with educators and academic institutions, or leading or supporting a professional association or other member-drive organization is strongly preferred
