Location: Grissom Air Force Base
Duties The primary purpose of this position is:
To perform aircraft structural maintenance and support equipment repair for tasks associated with the planning, laying out, fabricating, modifying, repairing, assembling, corrosion control, specialized coatings, advanced composites, tubing, and installing sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks herein. DUTIES: DUTY 1: IAW technical data and standards:
Plans and lays out work from engineering data, blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the repair, coating or manufacture of aircraft structural components and support equipment. Reviews work order requirements reflecting sheet metal articles, composite components, parts, and assemblies to be constructed, altered, painted or repaired. DUTY 2: IAW technical data and standards:
Develops patterns, molds, cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes. Applies principles of radial-line development combined with parallel-line development to devise and calculate patterns. DUTY 3:
Operates, cleans, maintains and accounts for all hand, power tools and equipment, such as slip roll forming machines, box and pan brakes, beading and tubing machines to fabricate and repair items. Uses and maintains a variety of other tools such as drill presses, rivet guns, punches, metal saws, shears, power hand saw, power band saw, universal grinder, electric sander, production/programmable CNC tube benders, swedgers, cable swedging and testing equipment, and other tools of the trade.
DUTY 4:
Inspects, prepares aircraft and support equipment surfaces and applies a variety of chemical compounds, protective and specialized coatings to a variety of materials, such as sheet metal, radomes and composites then correctly disposes of hazardous waste products. Responsible for effectively planning work to be accomplished, selecting methods, tools and techniques best suited for the task and assuring conformance with accepted trade practices and standards.
Repairs, modifies, and manufactures fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite/metal structural components that have contours that must be reestablished or that require the manufacture of a mold using the available part or pattern. DUTY 5:
Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training. Complies with required instruction, guidance and/or training and provides instruction, guidance and training to others. Utilizes safety practices, Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and AF Environmental Compliance Assessment Management Program (ECAMP) environmental protection practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives and policies. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3800 Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
