As an Automation Technician, you will be a key part of our business in Assembly. Reporting to the Assembly Engineering Leader, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining automated production systems and equipment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to impact the exit devices used in your everyday life. What You Will Do:Ensure automated cells are up and running. Act as stopgap on 2nd shift for all production interruptions related to robotics, automated assembly, conveyance, and machine vision/cameras.
Perform rapid in‑line troubleshooting to identify and isolate mechanical, electrical, software, or vision issues and implement corrective actions.
Collect and document shift‑level incident data and root cause analysis to share with other team members and technicians across shifts.
Escalate complex issues to cross-functional teams with clear, concise, technical communication including shift handovers to share next steps.
Perform standard work tasks and TPM to support robots, cameras, and automated assembly operations.
Assist and support in changeover, setup, and validation activities for product variants.
Support robotic cell raw material loading and finished good unloading as needed to meet production targets.
Support problem solving and implementation of process improvements to sustain multi‑vendor robot operations across Assembly.
Work collaboratively with production operators, maintenance, controls, toolroom, IT, and engineering to minimize downtime needed for on‑time delivery and to ensure safety.
Participate in training by robot vendor and camera solutions to build competency needed for new automation sustainment.
Preferred associates degree in automation or robotic technology, mechatronics, mechanical engineering technology, computer engineering technology, or similar. If not, willingness to obtain certificate within 12 months.
Experience with industry standard robots - Universal Robot, Yamaha Robotics Group, Yaskawa Motoman, or equivalent. Experience with Cognex or Keyence machine/vision camera system or 3D profilers, PLCs, HMIs, and MES or ability to learn.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and One Note).
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality requirements in a low‑volume, high‑mix environment. Operations, manufacturing, or warehousing experience preferred.
Reliable attendance and ability to work 2nd shift schedule (typical hours e.g., 4:00 PM–2:30 AM Monday through Thursday; specific schedule to be provided).
Must be able to respond to high‑pressure situations calmly and prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to write clear incident reports and communicate technical information to non‑technical operators.
Exposure or training with one or more robot types: multi‑axis robot arms, cobots, 3‑axis cartesian robots, 4‑axis SCARA robots, and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) a plus.
Technical experience in a manufacturing or production environment including internships and coursework.
Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
Basic electrical understanding (reading wiring diagrams; using multimeter).
Experience with pick‑to‑light, laser etchers, barcode scanners, machine vision, or quality testers is plus.
