Manufacturing Engineer – Plastics
Location:
Whitestown, IN
Salary: $82,000–$87,000 | 1st Shift
MUST-HAVES (Read First)- Associate’s degree required;
Bachelor’s in Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field preferred - 3+ years of manufacturing or engineering experience, preferably in plastics production (injection molding, extrusion, assembly)
- Strong understanding of plastics manufacturing processes and quality control principles
- Proficiency with CAD software for tooling, fixture, and equipment design
- Familiarity with quality standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.)
- Ability to analyze, optimize, and improve manufacturing processes
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
The Role
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer – Plastics to join a growing manufacturing team in Whitestown, IN. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing processes and systems to ensure efficient production, high product quality, and cost‑effective operations. This is a hands‑on role with opportunities to collaborate across departments, mentor production staff, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, improve, and optimize manufacturing processes including injection molding, extrusion, assembly, and packaging
- Conduct process validation and verification to ensure product quality and adherence to standards
- Collaborate with product management and design engineers to improve manufacturability
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, identifying process changes or design improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize defects
- Design and evaluate tooling, equipment, and fixtures for production readiness
- Create work instructions and training materials for equipment setup and operation
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for manufacturing equipment
- Support quality assurance by developing control procedures and addressing deviations or defects
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring milestones are met
- Perform failure analysis and root cause investigations on production issues
- Associate’s degree required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred - 3+ years of manufacturing or engineering experience, plastics experience preferred
- Knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes (injection molding, extrusion, etc.)
- CAD proficiency for tooling and fixture design
- Experience with quality control methodologies and standards
- Project management experience is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements
- On‑site manufacturing environment with mechanical equipment and moderate noise levels
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift up to 35 lbs, operate tools, and work safely around equipment
- Exposure to minimal risk of fumes or airborne particles
- Requires good vision, including color recognition
