Position: Maintenance Technician 1
Location: Bremen

Johns Manville is a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality insulation and commercial roofing, along with glass fibers and nonwovens for commercial, industrial and residential applications.

Position Overview

This Maintenance Technician will perform routine and non‑routine maintenance on production and facility equipment to support the manufacturing of roofing materials and meet facility targets for safety, productivity, and machine uptime. The role includes effective problem solving, troubleshooting, and corrective action development.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all Johns Manville safety and environmental procedures and policies.
  • Attend plant safety and training meetings as scheduled.
  • Adhere to Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures, use safe work practices, and report hazardous conditions.
  • Develop and review JSA’s for new tasks annually.
  • Perform routine and non‑routine maintenance activities on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Display working knowledge of electrical (single phase and 3‑phase), mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems.
  • Install and repair electrical conduit and cable, including connections, controls, and grounding.
  • Use electrical and mechanical schematics to troubleshoot or install/modifying equipment.
  • Use metering equipment (voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, etc.) for electrical measurements.
  • Inspect equipment, report defective parts and unsatisfactory conditions to support preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain, adjust, service, and lubricate equipment to keep it in good operating condition.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams.
  • Assist co‑workers as directed and perform other work as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide feedback to leadership on critical equipment issues pertaining to safety or operational capabilities.
  • Display flexibility toward change management and cross‑functional teamwork.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping; keep the job site and maintenance shop consistently clean.
  • Communicate status of planned and unplanned jobs to plant supervision.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of multi‑craft maintenance experience.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively.
  • Strong problem‑solving capabilities and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Intermediate computer skills and SAP experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical component repair (pumps, gearboxes, reducers, couplings, seals, rotating elements, blowers, fans, hydraulics, valves, compressors).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, pipe fitting, and fabrication skills.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, hydraulic press, mill & drill press, and saws (band & chop).
  • General knowledge of building lighting, AC/heating, fire alarm systems, and Lock/Tag/Clear procedures.
  • Understanding of 480V systems and arc‑flash training per NFPA 70E.
  • Capability to troubleshoot and diagnose process heating and cooling equipment.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast‑paced environment and make appropriate decisions under changing priorities.
  • Local travel for training purposes.
  • Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) skillset.
  • Equipment predictive/preventive reliability experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for extended periods and lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds safely.
  • Use hands repetitively for grabbing, feeling, pulling, and sensing.
  • Work safely in fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environments.
  • Operate safely in dusty conditions with temperature extremes (hot to cold).
  • Work a 12‑ or 8‑hour rotating shift schedule.
  • Bend, stoop, or kneel repeatedly and reach or work above shoulder height.
  • Be physically capable of performing essential job functions.
