Location: Mount Vernon

Position Overview

Our Machinists in Mount Vernon work on large‑scale, multi‑axis CNC mills and lathes to machine one‑of‑a‑kind precision components for naval nuclear reactors used in submarines and aircraft carriers.

This low‑volume, highly‑engineered manufacturing environment involves the full life cycle of the build. You’ll work in a safe, clean, specialized environment alongside skilled colleagues. The work allows you to demonstrate machining skills while supporting the safety of our nation’s sailors.

All machinists start with paid on‑the‑job training and mentoring before working alone. Overtime is required but flexible. Shift premium, double time, and a sign‑on bonus of $4,000 are available. Relocation assistance is offered for qualified applicants. The schedule begins day‑shift training and transitions to a three‑day weekend (12‑hour shifts Friday–Sunday). Pay is for forty hours, three days per week.

Your Day to Day as a CNC Machinist

Set up and operate CNC machine tools to perform milling, drilling, tapping/thread milling, boring, and turning to meet print specifications. Additionally you will:

  • Use precision measuring equipment to verify products meet customer requirements and product specifications
  • Work to ±0.001” tolerance and 16 microfinish when necessary
  • Write/edit programs using G and M coded controls (experience with Siemens and Fanuc controls preferred)
  • Troubleshoot challenges with support of on‑site engineering
  • Read and comprehend written instructions, technical procedures, prints, sketches, and bills of material
  • Assist the CNC Programmer to develop and/or test run programs
  • Calculate proper speed and feed rates using advanced mathematical skills
  • Operate crane or assist with rigging and moving parts
  • Maintain clean work area and daily housekeeping duties
  • Collaborate and communicate with opposite shift through face‑to‑face carryover and log books
  • Work with tooling application engineers to devise optimum tooling design and practices
  • Work in accordance with all applicable company procedures, policies and rules
Required Qualifications
  • High school equivalency with a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience.
  • Associate’s of Applied Science degree in Machining Tool and Die or equivalent training plus two (2) years of on‑the‑job experience may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Experience with grinders, tool setters, jacks, clamps, bolts, shims, jigs, fixtures, angle plates, rules, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gages, levels, protractors, verniers, and light hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records; complete process documentation and other production records.
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience machining parts greater than 8‑feet diameter and 10‑tons.
  • Experience with different machining attachments (right angle, universal, offset milling).
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

Pay: $75,797.10 per year. The base salary range for this position in Indiana is expected to be between $75,797.10 and $75,797.10 per year. Total compensation may include an annual cash incentive and other benefits. If hired, you will be employed ‘at‑will,’ unless subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
